Reflect on how your own life experiences or history influence your perspectives on inclusion and diversity (I.e., values, beliefs and attitudes). Give examples of interactions you’ve had during placement, working with others in the service from diverse backgrounds, and what you’ve become aware of about yourself when relating to diversity in others. Reflect on your own culture and local community attitudes, language, policies and structures and how these might impact different people and groups in the service, based on what you’ve observed during placement. Give a specific example and really reflect on the impacts or challenges that can occur from diversity. (100-word limit, bullet points)

I.e., Consider people with diverse backgrounds, cultures or values from your own and how different expectations or attitudes may affect them or impose on them in some way. For example, if a family recently migrated from Sudan wanted to bring the extended family (15) to an event in the service, but service guidelines stated only primary caregivers (2) could attend. This would have an impact on the extended family being able to participate and language barriers may make this even more challenging

 

QUESTION 4 

Reflect on how you have worked inclusively and respected diversity by providing an example of each of the following. For each example, describe the context/situation, identify the types of diversity to present and explain how you contributed to inclusivity and respect for diversity. (250-word limit)

 

a) Provide an example and discuss how you valued and respected diversity across all areas of work, by recognizing and respecting the needs of others from diverse social or cultural backgrounds.

 

 

b) Provide an example and discuss how you contributed to the development of workplace and professional relationships, based on appreciation of diversity and inclusiveness. Include how you both recognized and respected the needs of those from diverse backgrounds to yourself (different to the situation referred to in 16a).

 

 

c) Provide an example and discuss how you used work practices that made environments safe for all people (inclusion and diversity of culture, gender and ability). Include how you both recognized and respected the needs of those from diverse backgrounds to yourself (different to the situation referred to in 16a and 16b.

 

 

d) Provide an example and discuss how you showed respect for diversity in the way you communicated with people. Discuss how you used verbal and non-verbal communication to constructively establish, develop and maintain effective relationships built on mutual trust and confidence.

 

 

e) Provide an example of how you used communication skills that modelled care, empathy, respect, open, inclusive, ethical interactions with each of the following: children, families and colleagues.

 

 

QUESTION 5

a) Identify areas of diversity and inclusion in the workplace that are challenging for you and describe how.

 

 

b) Reflect on two (2) diversity practices in the service and your personal experience of these. Explain how they impacted your behaviour, interpersonal relationships, perception and social expectations of others.

 

 

 

 

c) Describe two (2) limitations you have in regard to social awareness and working inclusively with people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
