Instructions: This assignment is designed to help you prepare for your upcoming Academic Argument Essay 10% assignment. For this activity, you are required to complete the following two components:

PART A: An academic argument planner

• Paragraphs points should include your own ideas and some evidence/facts from both Hamblin’s article, “How to Sleep”, and Bennett’ article, “On Campus, Failure is on the Syllabus”,  in-text citations (a full references page is not required for this activity. You will create one at the end of your completed Academic Argument Essay).• • You are not required to have three body paragraphs, although you may do so if you wish—please use the number of paragraphs that works best for your potential essay.• You will select one of the essay topics below as the foundation for your planner.

PART B: An introductory paragraph (5-8 sentences)

• Must include a hook• Must include an arguable thesis statement• Must include some additional sentences to set the stage for your argument.

Topic Options: Please read both options carefully. Then, select onetopic as the foundation for your planner and introduction.

Option #1: Compare and Contrast

Compare and contrast at least two specific rhetorical strategies(logic, emotion, or credibility) used by both James Hamblin in “How to Sleep” and Jessica Bennett in “On Campus, Failure is on the Syllabus”. Examine your own experience reading each article, and then identify which source is more effective in persuading you to change your mind or behaviour.

 

 

Option #2: Argumentative

Consider the recommendations both Hamblin and Bennett make in their articles to improve their readers’ wellness. Write an argument that identifies at least two of the most realistic strategies students can use in their lives to benefit their health and wellbeing. Use Hamblin’s article, Bennett’s article, and your own experiences to support your argument.
