You will need a live audience for all of the formal speeches. The number of audience members varies by speech, but a live audience is required for all.

Your audience members must be at least 16 years of age, and willing to participate appropriately. It is highly recommended that you recruit one or more of your audience members to be the camera operator.

Research

Research what it means to be an appropriate and supportive audience member. How should an audience act? What shouldn’t an audience member do?

Recruit

Talk to at least 10 of your friends and family about serving as one of your audience members.
You will not need all of them each week, but it’s best to have more than you need to allow for schedule conflicts.
Remember to tell them what dates and times you will need them available (consult the syllabus, course summary, and calendar).

Write your audience plan

Make a list of at least 10 friends and family who have agreed to serve as audience members.
Include name and age of each audience member. Designate at least two audience members as camera operator.
Write instructions for your audience. What will you tell them to prepare for recording? How do you want them to act, listen, sit? Do you want them to sit in a specific place or wear particular clothing? Consider all that you want them to know.
Describe the location or setting you have chosen for recording your speeches.
Plan for the unexpected. Include a paragraph about what you will do if your computer crashes or you lose Internet access.
