Watch the video Negotiating in outdoor play space – to observe the different behaviors of the children playing a game.  

From the possible answer choices list at the bottom of this page, match the antecedent, behaviour, consequence, and reason for behaviour for each situation.  

The antecedent is what happened immediately before the behaviour 
The behaviour is what is seen and stated in objective terms and will be given to you 
The consequence is what happened immediately after the behaviour 
The comments and the functions explain the reason for the behaviour 

 

Situation 1:

1. Facing the front of the line of boys is a teacher and another child who reaches down to pick up the thrown ball rolling on the ground. One of
the other boys from the line grabs the ball and jumps up and down holding it.

3. The teacher intervenes “wait, wait, stop” as she holds on to the boy in red’s arm and moves the arm away. “I want it” he states.
4. The boy with the ball does not loosen his grip and the teacher starts to pull the entwined children apart. The red shirted boy declares the other boy “get off his friend” The teacher encourages them to throw again.

5. The boy runs to the opposite side of the playground with the ball hugged to his chest and is chased from behind by another friend. Two other boys struggle to gain possession of the other ball.
