Determine the denotation, connotation, synonyms, and etymology of words whenever doing so may shed light on the words’ multiple meanings. Help readers better understand how the literary devices, such as figurative language and connotation, help create the Gothic tone and mood of the poem and solidify the poem’s place in the Gothic genre. How you go about this project is up to you, but consider one of the following options:Option 1: Make a glossary of high-level terms from Poe’s “The Bells,” as well as a list of literary devices used in the poem: rhyme, repetition, alliteration, tone, personification, and mood. For the high-level terms, each entry should provide multiple definitions (if available) and identify which definition Poe most likely intended, based on context. Each entry should also explain the word’s etymology. For the literary devices, each entry in your glossary should provide a definition and an example from Poe’s “The Bells.” In select entries of your glossary, make a connection between the term or literary device you’re explaining and the Gothic genre. Option 2: Make an interactive, hyperlinked version of “The Bells.” Each hyperlink should be a word, phrase, or line that connects the reader to a pop-up with commentary. The commentary should be made up of definitions and etymologies of specific words, along with suggestions about which of several meanings the author intended, based on context. The commentary should also include interpretations of poetic devices, such as rhyme, connotation, and figurative language, to determine their effect on the poem’s mood or tone. Option 3: Compile a series of quotes from Poe’s “The Philosophy of Composition” and explain how each applies to “The Bells.” Select quotes that say something about the effects of literary devices and word choice on the tone and mood of a poem, and then explain how that insight fits “The Bells.” Expand on your explanations by using reference materials to determine the meaning and etymology of specific words in the poem, especially to identify the precise meaning Poe wanted to convey and its intended effect on the reader. Finally, explain how “The Bells” fits the same Gothic genre as “The Raven.” Image transcription textThe Bells By Edgar Allan Poe l.
