Understanding the development and individual differences of…

Understanding the development and individual differences of students with disabilities allows special education teachers to respond appropriately during instruction. Developing a strong classroom management plan and behavioral plan to support instructional assessment, planning, and delivery, is essential to the success of students with disabilities.

Part 1: Classroom Management Plan

Using the “Classroom Management Plan Template,” a classroom management plan for an inclusive classroom based on the students in the “Class Profile.” The classroom management plan should focus on intervening safely and appropriately with students in crises, and demonstrate how verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques can help create opportunities for active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction.

Part 2: Specific Student Support

In addition, select a student with mild to moderate disabilities from the “Class Profile.” Write a 500-750 words rationale justifying how the classroom management plan meets the needs of the selected student. The rationale should include:

How the plan will be adjusted for the chosen student’s needs.
How the plan meets the chosen student’s specific physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs.
Other educators and colleagues you need to collaborate with to meet the needs of this student, and each person’s role in implementing the plan to create meaningful learning activities and social interactions for the student.
How the plan’s implementation of expectations, values, and routines promotes engagement, time and space management, respectful communication, and safe interactions for the student.
One motivational and one instructional intervention to teach the student how to adapt to different environments, and how the interventions will be integrated into the classroom management plan to benefit all students.
