Something catches my eye in my small, but spacious room. I see in the dark a glowing x light. Xbox One , made in the year 20 something. Remembering all the candy bars sold in order to afford it 6 years ago. On top of the xbox lies layers of dust, not surprised, it’s never been cleaned ( disgusting I know ). It turns out great, holding this generation’s evolution of games , starting at Minecraft. A game where an explorer is left in an empty world and is forced to build their way up to fighting a dragon. To Roblox, a free sandbox game where users play games developed by other users. To Grand Theft Auto, a game notorious for being 18+, but children convince their parents to buy it. Towards the back of this seemingly black box is a number of ports, HDMI , USB, Headphone Jacks. All scratched up from years of use, the dent still there from when I dropped it on the kitchen floor. Surprisingly the xbox still boots up and works like a charm. Onto my next find, the xbox controller, this bulky 7 inch by 4 inch controller. It weighs close to nothing and to the naked eye, is just a bulky controller. But within its power it holds a huge complex system of embedded wires, which trigger whenever the blue x button is hit by the human finger , when the yellow y button is hit, when the glowing red button is pressed, and when the green b button is pressed. The wires inside send signals that are delivered to the Xbox’s central processing unit, all taking milliseconds and impossible to detect from the naked eye, but so fascinating. The years of sweat built up from the countless days where it was powered on until 3 am. The controller’s joysticks are partially missing, due to being pressed down repeatedly over the course of 7 years. The left bumper, as glossy as the diamond on my mother’s ring, is in a non working condition. However this Xbox, this machine that is dusty and now it’s on my desk collecting dust, has been my childhood. Arts & HumanitiesEnglish
