Some of the engaging details are in his fathers’ memories as a child. He explains in detail where he lived in the mountains in Laos. As he recalls his happy memories, he also shares the hardest ones. Goes into details about the war in Vietnam and how the bodies of all the dead children on the way to the refugee camp. Also the very beginning of the story in sets the tone and location for where the story is based off from describing the humid jungle.
