QUESTION 6
After reading the course information in Unit 3, titled, Adapting the Environment, a child in your class, who has difficulty paying attention and has limited mobility in his hands (aka, writing with a utensil is difficult for long periods of time) needs adaptations in the classroom.
Pick 3 categories to adapt under the title, Examples of adaptations required by students with various needs (i.e., full use of wheelchair mobility, work surface access, materials access, and holding- There are 13 categories).
Under each category, pick 2 adaptations and give a brief rationale for why you chose the particular adaptation.
The rationale can be in support of the instructor OR the student OR both. (You decide)
Category 1 ( minimum of 1 sent)
2 adaptations (minimum of 2 sent)
Category 2 (minimum of 1 sent)
2 adaptations (minimum of 2 sent)
Category 3 (minimum of 1 sent)
2 adaptations (minimum of 2 sent)
Here is an example for a different student:
The example is for 1 category and 2 adaptations)
The first category I picked was full work surface access (Category 1) because my student needs help accessing materials in the classroom. The first adaptation I chose was a peer buddy(Adaptation 1) because if my student drops something, the peer can help him pick up their utensil. In addition, a peer buddy will help with the flow of the class and will keep the instructor from not having to stop lecturing if the student drops something. The second adaptation I picked was a portable lap desk. This desk will be adaptable for my student and his needs because it will be easier for him to access materials and/or work from his wheelchair during class. I will also make sure the desk has wheels so it can move with him from class to class.
