For this initial post, you will need to answer each of the questions below thoroughly and thoughtfully, using complete sentences. As you watch each video, take notes for each of the questions below so that you are preparing your Initial response.  Also consult the textbook chapters for this module to give you additional ideas for your Discussion posts; at minimum, reference the textbook at least two times with page numbers.  .

Important Notes: Remember that when you submit a “Reply,” all of your classmates will be able to see what you wrote, so keep in mind that Discussions require you to use academic and respectful communication. Make sure you review common netiquette (Internet etiquette) practices before you post, and make sure you remain respectful and kind at all times in this Discussion!

Initial Post Videos To Watch and Questions To Answer

Related to the first two videos: Based on what you are seeing in the videos, what are the differences that stand out to you between language and nonverbal communication, and did you notice any similarities? 
YouTube Video 1 “Girl vs. Woman: Why Language Matters” Links to an external site. Links to an external site. – Do you think changes in language are necessary? What is your reaction to what she brings up in the video? Would you correct someone using language you don’t agree with? Why or why not?
 YouTube Video 2 “Who Sounds Gay? Op-Docs, The New York Times” -Links to an external site.  What is your reaction to the video as it relates to what you read in the chapter on nonverbal communication? Can you give an example of how you have noticed vocal patterns, and the stereotypes we perhaps associate with them? Links to an external site.
Locate a video that showcases the difference between verbal and nonverbal communication. Share the link with a brief explanation about what you noticed in the video with the differences between the two. Your video must be appropriate in language (videos should not contain any profanity, hate speech, or discriminatory language) and be respectful of all individuals and groups, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, or ability.

Reply to at least two of your classmates’ initial posts. Take this opportunity to lend your valuable insights and unique experiences to others in the course. Also, practice sharpening your own interpersonal communication skills as you connect with your classmates.

What are some of the characteristics of verbal and nonverbal communication (starting on page 181 of your textbook) that you noticed in the videos? 
What did you notice about the impact of language (starting on page 155 in the textbook) in any of the videos, or even in the written posts or responses of your peers?
