Today’s clinical experience with the MMD (Mood Disorder) patient at the mental health hospital was both challenging and enlightening. The first thing that comes to mind is the complexity of mental health issues and the profound impact they have on individuals’ lives.

What went right and why? _

several things went right during today’s clinical experience. For example, I was able to establish a rapport with the MMD patient. This was achieved through active listening, empathy, and non-judgmental communication. Building trust with the patient was crucial in gaining insights into their experiences and emotions.

What would you do differently and why?

I would focus on enhancing my self-care practices. Dealing with patients experiencing mental health disorders can be emotionally draining, and it’s essential to prioritize my own well-being to provide the best care possible.

*Reflect In Action: What was I thinking when I did/said,

When I used cognitive-behavioral techniques during the session, I was thinking about the patient’s well-being and how these techniques could help them challenge their negative thought patterns. I wanted to empower the patient to take control of their emotions and develop healthier coping mechanisms.

*Reflect On Action: Now, what do I think about what I did/said?

_ Looking back, I believe the cognitive-behavioral techniques were effective in the context of this session. They seemed to resonate with the patient and led to some productive insights. However, I also recognize that therapy is an ongoing process, and it may take time for the patient to fully benefit from these strategies.

*Reflect Beyond Action: What will I do the next time I am in a similar situation?

In a similar situation in the future, I will continue to build on my therapeutic skills and adapt my approach based on the individual needs of the patient. I will prioritize self-care to ensure I can provide consistent and compassionate care. Additionally, I will seek supervision and guidance when faced with complex cases to enhance my clinical competence. Each experience is an opportunity to learn and grow as a mental health professional, and I am committed to continuous improvement in my practice.
