Combining Sentences through Subordination
combine each pair of sentences into a single sentence by using an appropriate subjordinating conjunction either at the beginning of, or between the two sentences. Strike through any words and punctuation you are changing and make your changes in red type. Use a conjunction that makes sense with the two sentences, and add commas where necessary. There may be more than one way to correct the sentences.
1. A student speaks a language other than English at home. The student is usually classified as an ESL (English as a second language), EAL (English as another language), LEP (limited English proficiency), or ELL (English language learning) student.
