ARGUE COMMON TOPICS. CHOOSE ANY CURRENT  EVENT, EXPLAIN THE EVENT, AND PUT 3 REASONS WHY PEOPLE MAY AGREE AND DISAGREE WITH THE EVENT USING PATHOS, LOGOS, AND ETHOS

Roe V Wade Leaves Country Divided

In the article by The Tennessean, “Tennessee doctors call abortion law ‘inhumane’, while anti-abortion group lauds now-active ban,” the author, Melinda Brown, is against the Supreme Court overturning this law by stating that abortion is a “Safe method” for the sitiuation. Brown also points out how the country is in complete outrage because the people believe abortion should be legal. She also uses Pathos by helping us understand how the people against the overturn feel, trying to persuade the reader to lean on that side. I believe Pathos really supports this article well due to the constant claims that women’s rights are being stripped from them. Although I do agree abortion should be legal, I also believe you can’t really say rights have been stripped. I think that’s a misconception and the counter argument uses Logos by saying how the elected officials may be more knowledgeable than the average voter.

Publications’ Position: This Ruling by the Government Will Bring the Country Down to Pieces

“The law has no exceptions for pregnancies resulting from rape and incest, nor does it have a legal exception for abortions performed to prevent the severe injury or death of a pregnant patient.” (Ethos)
“This law is dangerous to the women of Tennessee. Whatever your opinion is on abortion, please realize that these government mandates pose a significant threat to our health and many are downplaying these risks.” (Pathos and Ethos)
“How sick does a woman need to be to provide enough evidence for me to develop my affirmative defense?” (Ethos)

Counter Position: This Ruling by the Government  Will Positively Affect Americans

“Ending a life is murder legally and ethically, even a life that is only a few growing cells at the time of death.” (Logos and Ethos)
“Under the legal system established by the U.S. Constitution, the power to make laws is vested in Congress and retained by state legislatures. It is not the role of the Supreme Court to substitute the policy preferences of its members for those expressed in laws enacted by the people’s elected representatives.” (Logos)
“An unborn child has a “fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed,” the endorsement of a “human life” constitutional amendment, which would ban abortion, a call for judges who “respect human life” by supporting such an amendment, and new laws to state that the fetus is a “person” under the 14th Amendment.” (Ethos and Logos)
